'Non-Violent Action For Tibet' Workshop
(Sept 30 - Oct 6, 2002. Bhandara, Maharashtra)

Work Continues At The Site

Day 3 (Oct 2, 2002): Today just outside the hall a flag pole was erected by some of the workshop participants. Before beginning the programme, we sang the Tibetan National Anthem.

The main concentration of the day was on the construction of the 'Martyr Pillar.' The base we made yesterday was further developed upon and today at the end of the day, we literally erected the pillar.

Today Karma Yeshi la spoke on 'Activism in Exile' where he analysed activism from different angles and explained the pros and cons. There were many questions unlike the participants in other settlements.

From 10.45am, we worked on the pillar and made the wooden frames, put them together on the base, like an empty trunk. It was only in the evening that we did the filling of the frames. Women worked on the sand mixture while men filled the frames. Cement bags and other materials for the 'Martyr Pillar' were donated by the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress and the Regional Tibetan Women's Association, Bhandara.

In the afternoon, Karma Yeshi la introduced the programme 'Drama As A Means Of Expression' and I spoke on dramatics. Participants were divided into two and they started working on their drama pieces. Tenzin Tsedup la and myself assisted each group.

For the pillar construction, we had to dedicate the evening and postpone the screening of the remaining four parts of the documentary, 'A Force More Powerful: A Century Of Non-Violent Conflict.'

Third day of the workshop ended with singing the Tibetan National Song.
