'Story of a Nation' at Ambernath
(Ambernath, Maharashtra | October 14-15, 2006)
Friends of Tibet Campaigner Dr Shubhangi Gulavani (Right) speaking on 'My Introduction to the Issue of Tibet'.
Ambernath: It was for the first time Ambernath, a small town in Thane District of Maharashtra to have a photo exhibition open to public; it was for the first time they saw the destruction that was brought to Tibet by the communist China in the name of 'liberation' and 'progress'. 'Story of a Nation' - an exhibition of photos on Tibet organised jointly by the Datta Mandir Brahmin Sabha in association with the newly-formed Ambernath Chapter of Friends of Tibet led by Dr Shubhangi Gulavani brought the entire town to the Datta Mandir Brahmin Sabha Hall of Vadavali Section of Ambernath (East) from October14-15, 2006 to witness the Chinese atrocities in Tibet. The crowd mainly cosists of women visited the Sabha Hall again and again and brought their friends to know more and to discuss the issue of Tibet with Friends of Tibet campaigners present there.
For the people of Ambernath, it was more than a photo exhibition on Tibet. Shraddha, an Ambernath-based TV-journalist prepares a traditional 'Rangoli' to welcome others.
This exhibition of rare historic photos from both Tibet and in exile included photographs of the dramatic escape of the Dalai Lama to India from the Chinese-occupied Tibet and the guard-of-honour He received at the Palam Airport of the newly-independent India. Friends of Tibet (Ambernath) plans to conduct Tibetan medical camps, talks and discussions on Tibet and continue to tour the entire district of Thane, Maharashtra with the message of Tibet.
'Story of a Nation' was organised jointly by Datta Mandir Brahmin Sabha and Friends of Tibet (Ambernath) at the Datta Mandir Brahmin Sabha Hall, Vadavali Section, Ambernath (East) from October14-15, 2006.
